Glen Stewart
In 1905, the village had a population of 40 residents. Despite its small size, it supported several local businesses:
-
Blacksmith: William Adams
-
Dairy Industry: A cheese factory operated by Wm. Irvine.
-
Retail: A general store run by G. Timlick & Son.
The post office in Glen Stewart was established in 1874, with William Stewart serving as the first postmaster. By 1905, the position was held by R.P. Anderson. Like many other small offices in the region, the Glen Stewart post office was eventually closed following the inauguration of rural mail delivery.
The Glen Stewart church (Sandy Creek) was constructed during the summer of 1902. The project took place during the pastorate of Rev. C. J. Curtis and cost approximately $2,000. It was dedicated by Rev. J. E. Mavety, who was the chairman of the Brockville District.
